We scan photos, slides, and negatives using commercial scanners from Durst, Kodak, Nikon and Canon that produce unmatched image quality. Our expert imaging technicians spend time with each individual frame to ensure ideal exposure, focus, color fidelity, cropping, and orientation. We also utilize FARE™ (Film Automatic Retouching and Enhancement) Level 3, and DIGITAL ICE-Quad Technologies from KADC, to correct the most common problems found with old negatives and slides. These technologies can remove much of the dust and scratches that may appear on your originals. We can even revive images that have faded over time. Plus, Backlight Correction Technology works to adjust image exposure, and Grain Correction will help smooth out grainy images.

Resolution

The resolution of a digital image is defined as the number of pixels it contains. A 5 megapixel image is typically 2,560 pixels wide and 1,920 pixels high and has a resolution of 4,915,200 pixels, rounded off to 5 million pixels. Higher resolution means better quality prints and increased capacity for enlargement. But it also means larger file sizes that are more costly to create and more difficult to manage. The options for resolution are Standard and High, TIFF or JPEG.

  • Standard resolution is suitable for slide shows, email & web applications, and photo-quality printing without enlargement.
  • High resolution is best for archiving and enlarged photo-quality printing.
It may be advantageous to scan at High resolution even if you don't plan to make enlargements. More resolution gives you reserve should you need to zoom in or enlarge a portion of an image. Also, note that an image's resolution can easily be reduced, but it can never be increased without re-scanning.

File format
We normally convert your files to JPEG with low compression (high quality). JPEG is the standard format for consumer printing labs, digital cameras, and most digital picture devices. Other file formats are available.

Output Media

Your digital images will be transferred to CD or DVD. Each CD stores up to 500 images. Each DVD stores up to 4,000 images.

DIGITAL ICE-Quad Technologies from KADC, which incorporate the exposure control of DIGITAL SHO Technology and enable optimization for Kodachrome scanning in addition to the original Digital ICE Technology suite, which removes surface defects, restores color, corrects exposure and reduces grain in your images.

FARE™ (Film Automatic Retouching and Enhancement) Level 3. Its built-in retouching technology handles the most common problems found with old negatives and slides. It can remove much of the dust and scratches that may appear on your originals. It can even revive images that have faded over time. Plus, Backlight Correction Technology works to adjust image exposure, and Grain Correction will help smooth out grainy images.
